Among various methods of manufacturing polymeric microfiber, well-aligned and stable microfiber can be easily fabricated via charge-reversed electro-jet writing (CREW) system. Furthermore, multi-compartmental like bi-phasic and even more compartmental microfiber can be prepared using the CREW system. In this paper, multi-compartmental microfibers were prepared using diverse polymers such as Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), Poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA), Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), Poly(vinyl cinnamate) (PVCi). Not only specific combinations of these polymers, but any combinations can produce simply multi-compartmental microfibers. Instead of using multiple needles for controlling compartment size, it can be modulated through controlling each flow rate of syringe pumps. By using various polymers and controlling compartment size, multi-compartmental microfibers with different chemical and mechanical properties can be prepared and are expected to be used in diverse fields. |
