Polylactide (PLA) made from a renewable resource is famous for its eco-friendliness and harmless to human body compared with petroleum-based polyester. PLA however has a low glass transition temperature (Tg) that is obstacle to enlarge its applications. In order to increase Tg of PLA, we introduced isosorbide, a rigid and bicyclic diol, into the PLA backbone at random or regular distance. Random polyester-carbonate copolymer was synthesized by one-pot reaction with lactide, isosorbide and diphenylcarbonate. Alternating polyester-carbonate copolymer was polymerized after synthesizing isosorbide-lactate diol as a monomer. Basic properties of resulting polyester-carbonates were characterized and compared here. |
