Polymer/clay nanocomposites have attracted much attention due to their unique properties such as excellent mechanical properties, improved gas barrier properties, higher thermal stability compared to those of conventional composites. However, few research results related to polybutadiene rubber/clay nanocomposites have been reported.[1] In this study, neodymium-catalyzed polybutadiene(cis content 98%) was considered as rubber matrix and organoclay was incorporated as additives at less than 10 wt%. Mechanical properties and abrasion behavior of resulted nanocomposites were observed to be improved. The vulcanization of nanocomposites was determined by RPA(Rubber Process analyzer). The d spacing and the degree of dispersion in the nanocomposites were investigated by X-ray diffractometer(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), respectively. The abrasion resistance was also studied by DIN abrasion tester. References 1. YIZHONG WANG, LIQUN ZHANG, J Appl Polym Sci, 78, 1879(2000). |
