Polymer blending has been an effective way to obtain materials with specific properties. But owing to the inherent thermodynamic incompatibility, most of polymer blends are immiscible giving rise to phase-separation along the interphases, so it is necessary to compatibilize between immiscible polymer phases. To improve the compatibilizing effect, it has been directed towards in-situ compatibilization by reactive processing. Also, as a different method for the improvement of compatibilizing effect between immiscible polymer phases, mineral filler is often used. The factor that determines the compatibilizing effect of mineral filler is the specific interaction of a filler surface with each component of the polymer mixture. In our previous study, reactive compatibilizer-clay hybrid nanocomposites as a mineral filler have been introduced to act as novel compatibilizers. In this study, using oxazoline functionalized PS/organic liphophilic silicate nanocomposite with intercalation structure and MAH functionalized HDPE as copmpatibilizers simultaneously, we observed the compatibilizing effect in view of the contents of clay. We investigated the morphological, rheological and mechanical properites on the immiscible of HDPE/PS blends. |
