Exposures to organic solvents such as toluene or benzene can induce harmful health effects to human beings. Therefore, the monitoring and detection of unknown organic solvents are especially important for home and workplaces. In this study, we developed localized surface plasmon resonance sensors with higher selectivity for detecting and identifying organic liquids. To fabricate dual responsive nanocomposites, we incorporated immobilized noble nanoparticles into two different polymer brushes, which show different degrees of swelling depending on solvents. The morphology and sensing property of the nanocomposite sensor were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). This approach can provide a simple and highly efficient way to identify organic liquids. |
