Conventional droplet based microfluidic systems need to set up external experimental apparatuses, such as syringe pump and power supply to generate fluid. For this reason, conventional droplet based microfluidic systems have low accessibility to bio, chemical field researchers. This study demonstrates a simple method to generate droplets by negative pressure-induced flow without external apparatuses. Our method just requires simple 2-step (device degassing and solution loading) for operating the microfluidic device. We can generate droplets in various microfluidic structures, such as T-junction and flow-focusing structure by simply dispensing the continuous phase and dispersed phase into inlet reservoirs. While generating droplets with flow-focusing structure, the size of droplets, flow rate, and the rate of droplet generation were quantitatively analyzed for ca. 3 hours. |
