Recently, biodegradable electronics are noticeable because of their nontoxic and environmentally harmless byproducts. Among those materials, tannic acid (TA) is one of the most interesting materials. Here, we proposed a thin-film transistor (TFT) dielectric layer with poly methacrylated TA (PMTA). The PMTA is biodegradable because many ester groups of PMTA are readily hydrolyzed when exposed to physiological buffering agents. The field-effect mobility of TFT with PMTA exhibits 0.14 cm2 V-1 s-1 at Vg = -20 V. The electrical breakdown strength of PMTA is about 5.4 MV/cm. Self-assembled monolayer (SAM) was arranged with hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) to enhance compatibility between pentacene semiconducting layer and PMTA dielectric layer. HDMS SAM also contributed increment of the field-effect mobility to 0.2 cm2 V-1 s-1 at Vg = -20 V. When polyvinyl alcohol was adopted for TFT substrate, to enhance biodegradability, TFT device was fully dissolved within 8 days in phosphate buffered saline. |
