In this study, epoxy functionalized polymeric nonspherical particles were synthesized by seeded polymerization with styrene and glycidylmethacrylate (GMA). The monodisperse semi-interpenetrating polymer network (semi-IPN) polystyrene (PS) particles were prepared from linear PS spheres with styrene, GMA, and divinylbenzene (DVB) by seeded polymerization. Then, nonspherical epoxy functionalized particles were produced through seeded polymerization using semi-IPN PS-co-GMA seed particles. The morphology of epoxy functionalized polymer particle was controlled with modulation of the crosslinking density of the semi-IPN particles and swelling ratio of second monomer. The formation and morphology of doublet particles was monitored utilizing optical microscope (OM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). |
