Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles and their Application in Organic Solar Cells |

Silver nanoparticles have found great interest in several areas due to a great variety of applications. We report a novel method for the preparation silver nanoparticles by using a solvent as reducing agent and protecting agent under UV-irradiation. The silver nanoparticles synthesized were characterized by using UV-vis spectrophotometry, TEM, and XRD. The synthetic procedure presented here is easy, inexpensive, straightforward, and user-friendly. In addition, organic solar cell devices were prepared by utilizing the synthesized silver nanoparticles and their power conversion efficiency was evaluated. By incorporating the silver nanoparticles on the surface-modified transparent electrodes the overall power conversion efficiency was increased from 3.11% to 3.46%, mainly resulting from the improved photocurrent density due to the high electromagnetic field strength in the vicinity of the excited surface plasmons |
