In this work, the effect of atmospheric pressure plasma treatment of silicon rubber has been studied in terms of surface functionality and surface energetics of the silicon rubber surfaces. The plasma treatment was performed with plasma power intensity of 300 W for 1 min. Acrylic acid grafting on the plasma-treated silicon rubber surfaces was also carried out to improve the stability of surface functional groups. Contact angle analysis was used to determine the surface wettability of the silicon rubber. As a result, the plasma treatment led to an increase in wettability of silicon rubber, resulting in a marked increase in the total surface free energy of silicon rubber. Especially, the dispersive components of the surface free energy increased progressively with plasma treatment. Also, the acrylic acid grafting after plasma treatment did not significantly influence the aging effect of the silicon rubber. Consequently, it was found that the atmospheric pressure plasma treatment was a suitable method to improve the surface potential of silicon rubber. |
