Graphene has many advantages as a passivation layer due to its impermeability and one-atomic thickness. However, it has been reported that existence of CVD-grown graphene on copper (Cu) surface accelerates the oxidation of Cu at room temperature. Herein, we investigated enhanced oxidation mechanism of copper underneath CVD-grown graphene using Raman spectroscopy and Optical microscopy. We found that tensile strain on Cu oxide induced by as-grown CVD graphene mainly contributed to the enhanced oxidation of Cu. Based on our finding, we transferred CVD-grown graphene onto Cu to relax strain of graphene. We demonstrated that transferred CVD-grown graphene effectively prevented Cu from oxidation using Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. |
