Plant derived polyphenols habitually found in numerous fruits and vegetables, which comprises hydroxyl and catechol units. Herein, four conjugations were synthesized by grafting different polyphenols onto hyaluronic acid. 1H-NMR, UV-Vis and FT-IR confirms covalently bonding and UV assay highlights its substitution rates increases with feeding. Shear adhesion strength of HA-conjugates under uniaxial tensile strain has increasing with number of moles of catechol and hydroxyl groups. The antioxidant scavenging ability of polyphenols has higher for conjugations for longer path of delocalizing radicals and their vice-versa. Also resulted conjugations show controlled degradation by hyaluronidase. These improved properties of conjugations arises from multiple conjugations, hydroxyl and catechol units in polyphenols. |
