In this work, the amine treated activated carbons (ACs) were studied in CO2 capture. ACs-OH sites of the acid treated ACs were functionalized by 3-choloropropyltrimethoxysilane (CPTMS) which was subsequently grafted with amine compounds, Tris(2-aminoethyl)amine (TREN) and Tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA). The surface functional groups of the ACs were characterized by FT-IR and XPS. The textural properties of the amine treated ACs were analyzed by N2/77 K isotherms. CO2 adsorption behaviors of the branched amine TREN and straight chain amine TEPA treated ACs were observed in the amounts of CO2 adsorptions at 298 K and 1.0 atm. From the results, TREN-treated ACs possessed the greatest adsorption capacity of CO2, followed by TEPA treated ACs and non-treated ACs. |
