Catalytic wet oxidation of refractory organic compounds, such as EG (ethylene glycol), DST (terephthalic acid disodium salt) and PVA (polyvinylalcohol), from dyeing wastewater was investigated. Honeycomb type support (93mm diameter, 50mm height, 300 cells/in.2) was used for the scale-up and continuous operation. Metal loaded silica particles, which were synthesized by direct synthesis method using SBA-15 type mesoporous silica, were supported on honeycomb and used as a catalysts (La-M/SBA/HC, M=Fe, Cu, Cr or Mn). Wastewater treatment efficiencies were investigated regarding stabilities of the active metal components and silica particles and also, TOC (total organic carbon) removal efficiency was measured. Characteristics of the La-M/SBA/HC catalysts were analysed by N2 adsorption, SAXS (Small Angle X-Ray Scattering), XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) and ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectroscopy) methods. H2O2 concentration, COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) and TOC of the effluents were also analysed.
