제목 | Polystyrene-Poly(4-vinyl pyridine) Diblock Copolymers Confined in Nonopores of Anodized Aluminum Oxide Membranes |
초록 | We investigated self-assembled nanostructures of polystyrene-poly(4-vinyl pyridine), PS-PVP, diblock copolymers confined in nanopores of anodized aluminum oxide, AAO, membranes. PS-PVP films cast from THF solutions were placed on the top of AAO membrane, and were annealed under vacuum at 180 C, which is above the glass transition temperatures of both blocks. After annealing for 24 h, the AAO membrane was removed by 5.0 wt% sodium hydroxide solutions. PS-PVP nanorods replicated from the nanopores of AAO membranes were formed on the top of the film and their length was controlled by adjusting the annealing periods. To prepare TEM samples, PS-PVP films having nanorods after removing AAO membrane was embedded in epoxy with carbon coating on the film and cured at 60 C for 24 h. Ultrathin sections were obtained using a microtome with a diamond knife. Lamellar and cylindrical PVP nanodomains in nanorods fabricated from AAO membranes were directly visualized by cross-sectional TEM as shown in Figure 1. PVP blocks were selectively stained with iodine and appeared as dark domains. Preferential interactions of PVP blocks to AAO induced the capillary action, resulting in both lamellar and cylindrical nanostructures along the pore axis. However, incommensurability between the pore size and the lamellar periods caused irregular ring structure across the pore axis. The length of nanorods depended not only on the molecular weight of copolymers but also on their morphology. Electrically active species such as nanoparticles can be incorporated selectively in the PVP nanostructure of the nanorods to create anisotropic nanorods. Fig. 1.
