Ultraviolet (UV) curing behavior of a urethane acrylate resin system comprising urethane acrylate oligomers, photoinitiators and reactive diluents was investigated by FTIR spectroscopy. The conversion of the urethane acrylate resin system during polymerization was calculated from the area of the absorption peak for the vinyl group vibration occurring at 810 cm-1. To see the effect of photoinitiator type on the UV curing behavior of the urethane acrylate resin system, three photoinitiators, 1-hydroxy-cyclohexyl-phenyl-keton, 2-methyl-1[4-(methylthio)phenyl]-2-morpholinopropan-1-one and benzophenone, were used. Hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA) having two acrylic functional groups was used as a reactive diluent to reduce resin viscosity and to modify physical properties. UV curing of the resin system was carried out in a conveyer type UV curing instrument. The mechanical properties and glass transition temperatures of the cured resin system were measured by UTM and DSC. |
