With a view to improving the affinity of silica particles for the polymer matrix, a new type of polyimide/silica (PI/SiO2) hybrid films was successfully prepared based on the polymer-modified silica. First, poly(methyl methacrylate)-modified silica (PMMA/SiO2) was prepared by the condensation reaction of the surface hydroxyl group of silica with a polymeric coupling agent, PMMA-Si(OMe)3 . Then, PI/SiO2 hybrid films of different silica contents were obtained via thermal imidization by blending of polymer-modified silica with poly(amic acid) (PAA) from PMDA (as dianhydride) and ODA or PDA (as diamine) in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP). The effect of the type of diamine used on the thermal and mechanical properties of the PI/SiO2 hybrid films thus prepared was investigated by using FT-IR, TGA, UTM, and SEM. |
