Effect of Polymerization Condition on the Graft Copolymerization of ε-Caprolactone onto Poly(vinyl alcohol) |
초록 |
Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) is hydrophilic and biocompatable. Poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) is hydrophobic and readily biodegradable. A combination of PVA and PCL is therefore attractive in terms of the control of biodegradability and physical properties. Graft copolymer architecture is a versatile method for providing functionality to the product polymers. To prepare poly(vinyl alcohol)-graft-poly(ε-caprolactone) (PVA-g-PCL) having various degree of substitution (DS) and degree of polymerization (DP) of PCL side chains, polymerization conditions such as feed molar ratios of ε-caprolactone as a monomer and tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate as a catalyst to the backbone and polymerization temperature and time were controlled, respectively. The graft polymer, PVA-g-PCL removed homo PCL by sohxlet eatraction was characterized by Fourier transform infrared and differential scanning calorimetry and DS and DP value related with PCL content was determined by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. |
