CO2 generation in combustion process using a fossil fuel is known for a principal cause of global warming. CO2 capture and collection have been studied in various methods and fields. Mineral carbonation of CO2 capture is generated as natural result in nature. That method had a exothermic reaction with CO2 and magnesium of alkaline earth metal in the form of magnesium-carbonate , calcium-carbonate and so on. Alkaline earth metal as reaction material became a stable mineral carbonate on thermodynamics. Serpentine selected on this study is abundant calcium and magnesium in nature. Its good point is expected to serpentine that has a high adsorptive capacity per unit volume about CO2. The serpentine was treated various times and temperatures on a furnance. The heat treated serpentine was analyzed by ICP, XRD , FT-IR, SEM and XPS for crystallochemical and spectroscopic characterizations. |
