Polymer composite as a heat sink should be considered to have higher thermal conductivity, which is strongly related to interfacial properties between the ceramic and the polymer. In this point, we will conduct surface modification on boron nitride using different kinds of silane coupling agents having amino, phenyl, epoxide and alkane functional groups to minimize thermal losses at the interface by enhancing compatibility between particle and polymer. Hexagonal boron nitride is exfoliated by horn-type sonication to prepare BN/epoxy composites. We will present optimal surface modification schemes for obtaining highest thermal conductivity and explain it with a chemical similarity between the functional group and epoxy resin. Silane-modified BN was confirmed by FTIR and thermal conductivity was measured by a laser flash method. |
