Quantum dot (QD) has currently emerged as a next-generation display materials due to its excellent optical properties. However, QD easily loses its optical properties because of aggregation in a matrix and oxidative degradation caused by environmental factors such as heat, oxygen and moisture. Expensive barrier film with very low water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) applied to current QD films used in premium TV sets becomes a hurdle to extend its application to various display devices. Here, we designed a polymeric microcapsule having a multi-lamellar structure consisting of self-assembled stack of 2 dimensional crystal planes for QD encapsulation, which exhibited long-term stability in accelerated environments. We assure that this microcapsule plays a role as a barrier and can replace the barrier film to reduce QD film price. |
