Coordination Structure of Various Ligands in Crosslinked PVA to Silver Ions for Facilitated Olefin Transport |
초록 |
Highly selective performance of olefin/paraffin mixtures in solid state is reported by crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) (CPVA) membranes containing AgSbF6. Structure and coordination properties of CPVA/AgSbF6 membrane have been investigated here by using wide angle x-ray scattering (WAXS), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It is found that the chain mobility in PVA/AgSbF6 is more rigid than CPVA/AgSbF6 membrane, characterized by Tg and inter-segmental d spacing. The difference of transient crosslinking in two systems is attributed mostly to the different coordination structure; silver ions in PVA/AgSbF6 are coordinated by hydroxyl oxygen located near the main chain of polymer whereas those in CPVA/AgSbF6 are coodinated by aldehyde oxygen located far from the main chain. Upon incorporation of AgSbF6, silver salts are completely dissolved in PVA or CPVA and disrupt the polymer crystallinity. However, DSC studies show that the re-crystallization of amorphous domain in polymer-salt complexes was induced by the temperature elevation. The binding energy of Ag (3d5/2) in XPS spectra shifts to a lower value with increasing amounts of polymer matrix, representing the coordination interaction of silver ion with polymer. Various oxygen species with and without coordination to silver ion are confirmed by O 1s XPS spectra for CPVA membrane containing silver ion. |
