In this study, carbon fibers-reinforced thermosetting plastics (CFRP) were pyrolyzed with superheated steam in a furnace for varying pyrolysis times to recover high-quality recycled carbon fiber (R-CF). The pyrolysis temperature was designated based on the thermogravimetric analysis data of the matrix used. The mechanical and surface properties of the R-CFs were characterized with a single fiber tensile strength, modulus, interface shear strength, and scanning electron microscopy. The surface analysis exhibited that there was no matrix char residue on the fiber surfaces. The recycling efficiency of CFRPs was dependent on the pyrolysis time. |
