In this study, pitch-derived carbon molecular sieves (PCMS) were prepared using various carbonization temperatures for gas separation. The microstructural properties of PCMS were observed using X-ray diffraction. The pore characteristics of PCMS were determined using CO2/273 K adsorption isotherms. PCMS processed at different carbonization temperatures were applied as pressure swing adsorption. From the results, the specific surface areas and total pore volumes of the PCMSs were observed 240-310 m2/g and 0.10-0.11 cm3/g, respectively. The volume of pores having diameters of 0.6 nm or less gradually increased with an increase in carbonization temperature. The permeation properties of single and equimolar binary gas mixture through PCMS were measured and analyzed. The highest selectivity was attained by PCMS carbonized at 800°C, where the carbonization temperatures significantly affected the permeation properties of PCMS. |
