Volatile organic compounds(VOCs) present in the environment or our workplaces, often pose serious health threats as representative carcinogens. Therefore, detection of VOCs has attracted considerable interest over the recently. In this study, we evaluated a polarity-indicative charge-transfer dyes(CTDs) based polymer film using CTDs and polymers as a new type of VOC sensor materials to detect VOCs. Because the CTD has a D–π–A (electron donor–π-conjugate unit–electron acceptor) structure, it is very sensitive about changing of external environment such as polarity of the medium due to intramolecular charge transfer. Therefore, utilizing the characteristics of CTD, Fluorescent Vapochromism phenomenon which chemically selectively senses VOC vapor was observed. We also made a Polarity Indicator Array using the change in fluorescence wavelength and color change of film. |
