Associated with the antitumor activities of heparin, a novel heparin-based amphiphilic copolymer, heparin-poly(β-benzyl-L-aspartate) (HP), was designed as the anticancer drug carrier by using heparin as hydrophilic backbone and PBLA as hydrophobic moieties. PBLA, with the potential capacity for serving as pH-responsive drug release reservoirs, was conjugated to heparin by chemical coupling reaction with heparin. Additionally, folate-poly(ethylene glycol) was conjugated to HP in order to enhance the interaction between ligands and tumor cells. The properties of the self-assembled micelles were described by critical micelle concentration and size distribution. The release profiles of anticancer drugs incorporated into micelles were investigated. |
