We successfully synthesized hyperbranched aramid (HBA)-grafted multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) by in-situ polymerization. The acid treated MWNTs was reacted with the monomer 3, 5-diaminobenzoic acid by in-situ polymerization to give HBA-grafted MWNTs. The synthesis was confirmed by measurements of FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. According to SEM and TEM measurements, in-situ polymerized HBA-grafted MWNTs showed much enhanced dispersion of MWNTs, compared to the pristine MWNTs of tubular morphology. The resulting composites may possess potential applications as high performance materials in fields of aerospace and armament industry, bullet-proof body armor, protective clothing, and sport fabrics. |
