제목 Biosorption of reactive dye on the waste brewery biomass
초록 In this study, biosorption of reactive dye(Reactive Black 5) by waste brewery yeast was investigated. Yeast can be used as a biosorbent for water purification. Waste brewery yeast used in this work was collected from the raw biomass of brewery plant. The yeast biosorbent was prepared by washing, drying and grinding.
The particle size, pore radius and total pore volume of biomass used in this study were 0.075~0.150mm, 21.125Å and 1.792㎡/g, respectively.
The biosorption of the reactive dye from aqueous solutions using the biomass was studied in a batch system with respect to initial pH and temperature of the solution, and the amount of adsorbent. The adsorption capacity of Reactive Black 5 onto the biomass increased with decreasing initial pH and temperature. The biomass exhibited maxium dye uptake at pH 3 due to electrostatic attractions between negatively charged dye anions and positively charged cell surfaces and hydrogen ion activity as a bridging ligand between the yeast cell wall and dye molecule.
