In polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell field, hydrocarbon membrane has not been successfully employed for practical applications, which is, at least, attributed to the poor interfacial adhesion between the membrane and catalyst layer. In this work, a new socket and ball joint interlocking interface is presented. It is realized by forming microporous skin on the both sides of the hydrocarbon membanre, followed by the filling of the pores by perfluorinated ionomer. Owing to a highly interlocked structued feature, the interfacial adhesion is dramatically enhanced. It can withstand an extended wet-dry cycling, which promises its practical usage. |
