Rigid Polyurethane/clay Nanocomposite Foams |

Polyurethane (PU)/clay nanocomposite foams with various nanoclay contents (1, 3 and 5w%) were prepared using organically modified layered silicates. Effectively intercalated and/or exfoliated nanoclay were investigated by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. SEM morphologies of polyurethane foams (PUFs) nanocomposites showed small and uniform cell which gave a decrease in thermal conductivity compared with the pristine PUFs. With the addition and increasing amount of nanoclay mechanical properties and dimensional stability of PUFs were remarkably enhanced at low and high temperatures. It was also shown that overall thermal conductivity of the PUFs mainly depends on the conductivity of gas inside the cell and cell size rather than the cell materials. |
