Improving the light harvesting of solar spectrum is promising way to enhance the power conversion efficiency (PCE) in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). We fabricated Au@Ag core/shell nanoparticles decorated TiO2 hollow nanoparticles (Au@Ag/TiO2 HNPs) were synthesized via sol-gel reaction and two-step chemical reduction. The Au@Ag/TiO2 HNPs exhibited dual functions of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) from Au@Ag core/shell NPs and light scattering effect from TiO2 HNPs, leading to enhancement of light absorption. Moreover, the surface area of TiO2 HNPs was two times higher than that of commercial TiO2, providing sufficient dye adsorption for light harvesting. As a result, Au@Ag/TiO2 HNPs based DSSCs exhibited an enhanced current density (Jsc) of 18.2 mA cm-2 and a high photoconversion efficiency (η) of 9.7%, greater than those of conventional photoanodes made of TiO2 nanoparticles (Jsc of 13.7 mA cm-2, and η of 7.4%). |
