Characterization of cholesteric liquid crystals with different chiral dopants. |
초록 |
Cholesteric liquid crystals are one of the widely used liquid crystals in display industry. This is because they can make a circularly polarized light and this feature produces a lot of applications such as reflective films, color filter and E-paper. Since cholesteric liquid crystal phase was made simply by mixing a chiral dopant into nematic liquid crystals, a proper choice of chiral dopant becomes very important. In this study, the effect of flexible spacer structure of chiral dopants on their helical twisting power (HTP) was investigated by using newly synthesized chiral dopants. Their mesogen core structure was aromatic triad ester, which was almost the same as that of nematic reactive mesogen purchased by Merck. We also characterized cholesteric liquid crystals with a viewpoint of flexible spacer length and the distance of chiral center relative to mesogen of chiral dopants. |
