As potential electromechanical actuators which are very suitable for miniaturization, conducting polymer (CP) actuators have attracted the attention of many researchers in the last decade. Also CP has many promising features including low actuation voltage, high conductivity and environmental stability. However they have an important drawback to hysteresis based on continuous cyclic actuations. Although CP actuators have an emerging application field due to their greatly enhanced benefit at smaller scales and easy of the MEMS-based fabrication, this problem restricts possible future applications including biomedical systems and micro/nano manipulation systems. So in this study, to solve the hysteresis problem and improve the mechanical weakness of CP actuators, smart multi-layer actuator using conducting shape memory polyurethane which has excellent recovery force and polypyrrole electrodes were prepared. |
