Specific and reversible interactions between typical ionic liquids and olefin molecules were investigated and the interactions were considered to be applied facilitated transport of olefin. The interactions were first investigated by quantum mechanical ab initio calculations theoretically, and proved by FT-IR and transient sorption data experimentally. The transient sorption behavior of propylene through the ILs was non-Fickian whereas that of propane was well fitted with Fickian transport, implies that the ionic liquids interact with propylene specifically, but not with propane. A noble application for olefin facilitated transport materials were suggested in this work to separation propylene from its mixtures with propane. |
