In this study, we firstly prepared PEAA / Mn+-MMT nanocomposites using solvent casting method. We synthesized PEAA / Mn+-MMT nanocomposites through water-solubility of modified PEAA. The dispersion of the MMT (including Na+-MMT, Mg2+-MMT, Ca2+-MMT, Al3+-MMT and Fe3+-MMT) particles was investigated by TEM and XRD. TEM results indicated that the clay particles were dispersed evenly in the PEAA matrix. XRD results indicated that a possible explanation may involve an ion exchange process between the clay and PEAA ionomer. NH4+ ions, on the chain of soluble PEAA, replaced Mn+ ions which in the interlayer of MMT. This suppose was confirmed by Instron and TGA and DTA. The max stress of PEAA / M3+-MMT nanocomposites is always large than and PEAA / M2+-MMT nanocomposites and PEAA / Na+-MMT nanocomposites when they had same content of MMT. TGA and DTA results confirmed that the presence of M2+ and M3+ ions made network of PEAA. |
