Design optimization of single mixed refrigerant natural gas liquefaction process using Strawberry plant based approach |

A metaheuristic strawberry based algorithm was investigated for the optimization of a single mixed refrigerant for LNG process. Optimal design of an LNG process involves multivariable non-linear thermodynamic interactions, which leads to entropy generation and contribute to process irreversibility. As key decision variables, optimal values of mixed refrigerant flow rates and process operating pressures were determined in roots propagation pattern corresponding to the minimum required energy. Process was modeled in Hysys and then connected with SBA coded in MATLAB. Optimal operating conditions found by SBA significantly reduced the energy of process and improved the coefficient of performance in comparison with base case. SBA was also compared with other well-proven optimization algorithms such as genetic and particle swarm optimization algorithms.
