Mechanical properties of surface-modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes/epoxy composites |

This paper investigates some mechanical properties of Epoxy composites reinforced by using filler of surface-modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWNTs). MWNTs were chemically treated by acid & base solutions and functionalized subsequently by amine treatment to enhance dispersion. The functional groups on the surface of treated MWNTs were analyzed by FT-IR(Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) and EA(Elemental analyzer). Mechanical properties of the MWNTs/epoxy composites were measured by UTM(Universal Testing Machine). The composites fracture surfaces were characterized by FE-SEM(Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy). The amine treatment composite showed the highest mechanical strength and good dispersion property among surface-modified MWNTs/epoxy composites. |
