LiMn2O4/Multi walled carbon nanotube(MWNT) nanocomposites for lithium-ion batteries are synthesized by two-step hydrothermal method. First, the oxidized MWNTs were decorated with MnO2 particles generated by redox reactions between MWNTs and KMnO4. And then MnO2/MWNT nanocomposites were converted to LiMn2O4/MWNT nanocomposites by hydrothermal treatment in the presence of LiOH. Note that, electrochemical properties of manganese oxide particles depend on their crystallographic structures. Especially the specific capacity of spinel-type LiMn2O4 is higher than that of birnessite-type MnO2. Thus, LiMn2O4/MWNT nanocomposites showed excellent electrochemical properties for lithium-ion batteries. The electrochemical properties of the LiMn2O4/MWNT nanocomposites were examined by using cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge/discharge. |
