Effects of cellulose acetate on the morphology of carbonized fibers electrospun and carbonized from poly(acrylonitrile)/cellulose acetate/DMF solutions |

N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF) was chosen as the cosolvent of poly(acrylonitrile)(PAN) and cellulose acetate(CA). Nanofibers were prepared as the precursor of carbon nanofibers using an electrospinning set-up. The morphology of electrospun nanofibers was uneven over the whole content range. Fibers were carbonized in a tube furnace over the temperature range up to 1100oC. The surface areas of carbon fibers were investigated by automatic gas adsorption apparatus. Brunauer-Emmet-Teller(BET)-specific surface areas were measured for the carbonized nanofibers. The specific surface area was increased with increasing CA content in carbon nanofibers. When the ratio of PAN/CA in nanofibers was 3/7, the specific surface area of PAN/CA was about 4 times greater than that of pure PAN. |
