In order to enhance processability in various solvents, new polyaniline copolymers with solvent-mimic side-chains based on benzyloxypropyl (BOP) groups for non-polar aromatic solvents and dihydroxypropoxy (DHP) groups for polar alcoholic solvents were designed and synthesized. The polyaniline copolymers with small amount of the side chains exhibit high electrical conductivity using camphorsulfonic acid (CSA) dopant in m-cresol. Due to BOP side-chains acting as dispersion agent, the polyaniline copolymers having BOP groups show a high dispersability, good film forming ability and high electrical conductivity with dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (DBSA) dopant in non-polar toluene solvent. While solvent mimic side-chains for polar alcoholic solvents, DHP groups, were much more strongly interact with polyaniline main-chain than solvent molecules, which inhibits dispersion and doping effect. |
