Organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs), that produce renewable energy sources, have drawn significant attention due to low cost, easy fabrication, and light weight. OPVs based on small molecules have recently much developed by their well-defined molecular structure and high purity and have shown the highest power conversion efficiency of 10.1%. The donor–acceptor (D–A), D–A–D, or A–D–A structures have been used for high performance small molecular OPVs. In this work, we synthesized two isoindigo-based small molecules having various dye end groups. Isoindigo with two lactam rings can be used as accepting units of low-band gap materials in D-A alternate structure. The electrochemical and optical properties of the small molecules were studied herein together with the OPV fabrication. |
