Solid-state metal complex redox couples (i.e., Cu2+/+ or Co3+/2+) in combination with additives were employed in hybrid solar cells (HSCs), and the corresponding power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) were recorded within the range 5.68~11%. In this study, a Co(II) complex was mixed with 1-methyl-3-propylimidazolium iodide (MPII) or 1,3-dimethylimidazolium iodide (DMII), and they were applied as redox mediators of HSCs. When the Co(II) complex was used with MPII, a HSC showed a PCE of 2.257%, resulting from 6.138 mA/cm2 of the short-circuit current (Jsc), 0.606 V of the open-circuit voltage (Voc) and 60.65% of fill factor (FF). On the other hand, a device, in which the Co(II) complex was mixed with DMII, showed a photovoltaic performance of 8.653 mA/cm2 for the Jsc, 0.628 V for the Voc, and 67.06% for the FF, which led to a PCE of 3.646%. |
