Continuous pilot electroplating system was designed and manufactured to produce nickel/copper thin sheets for electromagnetic interferece shielding of various display devices, for example monitor filter and PDP filter. For the establishment of continuous electroplating process, it is very important to prepare robust mandrel, which is determined by choosing suitable materials to fill the nonconductive area of the mandrel surface and by controlling the characteristics of mandrel surface. It is due to the fact that filling materials play a key role in determining the interfacial state between conductive pattern and nonconductive area, the precision/homogeneity of patterned layer and endurance of mesh strips. We made an effort to enhance removability of nickel/copper mesh strips from the mandrel surface by attempting diverse filling materials in the nonconductive holes with different processes and by applying nano-scale electroplating at the interface between metal and polymer. Also, we tested the variation of thickness, degree of precision of pattern, and physical homogeneity of electroplated nickel strips at various current densities |
