The demands for fatty acidesters have been growing annually due to their valuable industrial applications.Even though homogeneous catalysts have been widely used for the esterification,these catalysts have many disadvantages to obtain the fatty acid esters;difficult separation of the catalyst, generating huge amount of waste. In this sense,heterogeneous solid acid catalysts have received considerable attention. Phenol sulfonic acid-formaldehyde (PSF)resins catalyst was used for the esterification of oleic acid with various alcohols.The activity of this catalyst was studied systemically for optimal performance andcompared with that of commercial available solid acid catalysts. Moreover, PSF resins catalyst was reused more than 5 timesand showed good performance without significantly loss of activity. |
