Nafion as a cation exchange membrane (CEM) is usually used in all-vanadium redox flow battery because of its high ion conductivity and chemical stability. However, CEM has a critical disadvantage to pass vanadium ions, which causes decline of battery capacity. To improve that, quaternized poly(1-vinyl imidazole) (QPIm) and poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (QPPy) were tested as anion-transporting materials. QPIm and QPPy were prepared by the quaternization of corresponding polymers with allyl bromide and 1-bromobutane. The membranes were fabricated by the co-electrospinning with some other polymers such as PEG, PVDF-HFP, PVA. The membranes were soaked in KOH solution for alkalization. The structure was confirmed with FT-IR and NMR. The hydroxide anion conductivities of membranes were analysed in relation to their structure and morphology. |
