In this study, chitosan-g-poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) supported palladium catalyst was prepared through simple steps, and applied to the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction as a heterogeneous catalyst. The Suzuki coupling reaction of various aryl halides can be performed in aqueous media without using any phase transfer reagent. The catalyst showed an excellent catalytic ability as palladium(0) was adsorbed within the bead, and proved to have an ability as a phase-transfer reagent because of the grafted PEG chain on the bead. Recyclability of the catalyst was also examined. |
