Facile fabrication of the porous PVDF-HFP membrane via improved phase separation method |

In this work, we report on a novel approach for fabricating the large-scale thin Poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) film with customizable sponge-like porous structure. Porous film is produced by using a facile dip-coating technique and based on the concept of NIPS, in which a mixture of a volatile solvent and a nonsolvent is applied onto a pre-prepared polymer film to induce phase separation through solvent evaporation; consequently, resulting in the formation of porous structure. Experimental results showed that the porous structure is composed of interconnected microbumps with pore diameter range of 510 µm. Importantly, the porosity and the structural size of the porous structure can be effectively controlled by regulating the composition of the mixture and drying conditions. Based on the calculation of polymer-solvent interaction parameter, the appropriate mixture solvents are identified. |
