In solution, block copolymers composed of two or more chemically distinct polymer chains covalently joined at one end can self-assemble into micellar aggregation of various structures such as vesicles, hollow micelles, and rod-like fibers. Rod-coil type diblock copolymers containing responsive functionalities may self-assemble to suprmolecular structures that respond and change their shape to external stimuli. In this study, we synthesize novel condensation-b-addition type rod-coil diblock copolymers containing azobenzene groups in the main chain of the rod segment as photo-switching units. Synthetic methods and photoinduced behaviors of the well-defined diblock copolymers will be presented. |
