An iron-based pyrophosphate compound as a positive electrode material for rechargeable aqueous sodium-ion batteries |

Aqueous rechargeable sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are safe and low-cost battery types that can promote the development of large-scale energy storage systems. In particular, iron-based compounds have an advantage in terms of price, which is a considerable factor for the application of SIBs. Recently, various pyrophosphate compounds have attracted much attention as sodium electrode materials due to their stable structure, good capacity retention, and high thermal stability. In this work, electrochemical properties of an iron-based pyrophosphate compound, Na2FeP2O7, have been investigated as a positive electrode material for rechargeable aqueous SIBs. The Na2FeP2O7/C composite presents reversible sodium intercalation and deintercalation without dissolution of electrode materials or side reactions in aqueous electrolytes. In addition, Na2FeP2O7 in an aqueous system can show much lower polarization, better rate capability and cyclability despite the limited voltage range. |
