As Liquid metal is transmutable by external physical force, it has been researched as an alternative electrode material to solid metal for soft electronics applications. Eutectic gallium-indium liquid metal is one of the most actively researched liquid metal, recently and has high electrical conductivity and fluid-like property. Unlike mercury, EGain has been known to be relatively low toxic. Moreover, EGaIn liquid metal has oxide skin formed on its surface which lowers the surface tension and therefore, plays a critical role in forming various shapes of EGaIn liquid metal. Formation or dissolution of the oxide skin is highly affected by pH environment and applied electric bias. In this study, we analyzed the time-dependent Ga and In ion concentrations released from EGaIn droplet in different pH environment using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectroscopy. We observed that the released ion concentrations of both Ga and In ions increases with time regardless of pH. Both ions are released most in basic pH environment and least in neutral pH. Furthermore, we also investigated the effect of pH on the electric bias-induced transport of EGaIn liquid metal. |
